At its core craft is all about learning then passing along skills so I am thrilled to now offer lessons and group workshops in my jewelry studio located in Charleston, SC. Whether you are interested in making jewelry for the first time, wanting to brush up on your bench skills, or have a specific project in mind I am here to offer my experience and space. All tools and materials will be included and please feel free to reach out with any questions or requests. Hope to see you in the studio soon!
Learn to saw, file, solder, and polish jewelry you handcraft
Learn techniques to add texture, pattern, and a variety of finishes to metal
Learn to polish and finish pieces that will look like they were made by a professional
Join me at my studio on Saturday May 30th and Sunday May 31st for a two day intensive all about the ancient technique of lost wax casting. I will walk you through the whole process, introduce you to all of the tools, and teach you the wax working and metalsmithing techniques for you to create two sterling silver pieces. This is a small class with only 4 students so you’ll get plenty of hands on assistance and guidance.
Day 1 - 10am-5pm (with 1 hour lunch break)
Learn all about the lost wax casting process
Tool tour
Learn wax carving and manipulation techniques
Free carving time to create your very own pieces ( each student will make one ring and one small charm, pendant, or small object. Total for both must be under 15g of silver)
Sprue up waxes and add to tree
Show everyone how to calculate metal weight
Invest waxes for casting
Day 2 - 10-2pm
Live casting
Removing castings from tree
Cleaning casting and removing sprues
Sanding and polishing your pieces to the perfect finish

Two hour one on one jewelry/ metalsmithing lesson with Olivia Ruxton
Perfect for someone looking to begin their metalsmithing journey, if you have a specific skill you are looking to learn in the studio, or if you have a project in mind that you would like help bringing to life.
*Once you have purchased your lesson I will reach out about scheduling. I offer two hour slots from 10am-5pm Friday through Monday
Join me in my studio for a three hour hands on workshop where you and a partner will learn the basics of metalsmithing. You will create your own set of sterling silver stacking bands by learning how to saw, form, solder, hammer, and polish metal using an array of tools and techniques. We will also learn how to add texture and patina to your beautiful bands. This workshop is perfect for beginners or anyone who loves to create. I hope to see you in the studio soon!

I provide all tools and equipment for the workshop.
In this hands on workshop I will teach you the step by step process of making your very own bezel set semi precious stone ring. You will learn the basics of metalsmithing including sawing, filing, soldering, and polishing as well as how to add a beautiful gem to the band using the bezel setting technique. These rings will be constructed in sterling silver and you will get to hand select your stone from my collection in the studio. This is the perfect class for friends, partners, bridesmaids, or anyone who just loves making things with their hands. In a five hour class (add an additional hour for each additional person over 2) we will go through the whole process together and you will leave with your very own handmade ring!
